How do i change my personality?

im tired of my personality i wanna be some one different. im gonna be taking a trip out of town in a week so i wanna come back to school being a totally different person. how do i do it?How do i change my personality?
There are two approaches.

One is mirroring, or imitating, someone you admire (and are able to be like to some suitable degree). Bear in mind that if you are choosing some media character you will often want to stick with an acceptable portrayal and get to know it cold, but rarely will the off-screen/concert person match their portrayal.

The other approach involves mapping out what you want changed and gradually adopting that as you would a new habit. Start with something like smiling. Spend some time in front of a mirror and find a smile that is reasonable to you and yet somewhat easy to maintain. Just as athletes rely to some degree on muscle memory, you try to not only see the expression in the mirror but feel what it feels like to make that smile. Then perhaps do something with your hair and clothes that is different and in fitting with your intended new persona. Just as the smile muscle feel, when you picture yourself in the new image you picture yourself holding the new behavioral characteristics.

As long as you don't attempt too much too soon and that there are no conflicts in your new behavioral ambitions you will look different and possibly have trained yourself to some increasing degrees to be different. This could range from speaking with better enunciation, and therefore clarity, to looking more pleasant, to being cognizant that certain situations used to make you really angry, so now you will approach those situations with more calm and reserve. These things are do-able, but you have to consciously do them often enough that they become habit to you.

I watched a comic on TV that often impersonated people in his comedy. He said that he enjoyed doing Johnny Carson's laugh so much that he has since forgotten how he used to laugh. The matter wasn't that he did Carson's laugh so much as that he enjoyed Carson's laugh. If you want to change to a nicer, better person, you may need to so fully adopt the modifications in ways that are enjoyable before they seriously stick. Until you make-over the person you see in the mirror to be the natural you, you are just acting. Your friends will know when you are just acting, and so will strangers. How do i change my personality?
You don't, and you shouldn't. Your personality is something so engrained into you that it'd be unnatural to try and change it. Just appreciate you for who you are.
think of yourself as an actor playing the character you want to be. that's the easiest way to start seeing yourself different. it's not you making the change and doing these things, it's your character.
behave like a lamb.

How can I change my personality?

I hate my personality so much..

I think im a nice enough person..but so quiet and socially awkward.

I've just started college and its hard to make friends..Ive talked to a few people but I don't think they like me because im so quiet..(I talk..it just takes me awhile to get used to people!

What can I do to change this?

I want people to actually like being around me!

=[How can I change my personality?
changing your personality is easier said than done. Personality is who we are and is one of the things that seperate us from others. Sadly, we are constantly bombarded by advertisements that say (in effect) ';wear this prefume and have men falling at your feet';, or ';drive this car and experience adventure';, stuff like that. And we begin to feel that if we DON'T do what the ads say, we are/will be, less happy, less popular, or less important, blah blah blah. Your personality is YOU and no matter what, there are people out there who share your type and with whom you are/will be compatible with. (you know, the old there-is-someone-for-everybody-you just haven't-met-them-yet comment). If you show interest in others, they will show interest in you. Keep in mind, your personality will continue to grow and evolve and the fact you are ';quiet'; is not necessarily a bad thing. Hey, people always tell me i ';talk too much';, so my point is, forget about these people and just ';be who you are'; and eventually, you'll be fine. Good luck. How can I change my personality?
Be yourself show your unique character i am sure someone might like your character die hard if not i will accept you as a friend.
I am exactly the same and am very worried about going to uni next year. I have learnt however that changing your personality isnt the best thing as people never normally like who they change into. Be yourself and people will accept you and you will make friends!!!!
im the same, i always have been... but i go to drama classes, which really boosts my confidence, it helps me be able to controll my voice and i have met so many new friends at the drama class (which is great because we all have something in common: drama)

i know some people get stage fright, and i used to, but its different with drama because if you mess up, its not you...its someone else entirely!!!

its great fun, and when i tell people that i go to drama classes they find it really interesting and its a good talking point. once you have a talking point you have a connections, and connections lead to friends YAY!!

i hope this helps

=)
I totally empathize with you. Sometime it feels like we don't belong but we'll get over it. Hopefully. Because I think it's sad and pathetic that I'm 19 and still a gauche with no friends, whatever your definition of friends may be.. I believe it's a mental disorder. Possibly associated with our childhood.

I've joined an organization at my school to try to overcome my social anxiety. We will be doing community service and group activities. Although I don't think I'll be joining the activities, I'll just be doing the service. I'm hoping to meet some people that will accept me for who I am. You should join a club too. I hope things will get better for you.
Alva,

kewl name!!

change your actions, your self - image would shift and the personality would follow

thats what job, for example , does to a person.

you see being quite is good. you made your first step to a change.

take the second one, that means talking to one persone, then another..even short conversation is good!

people build confidence gradually.

like a fledgling that tries to fly or baby that starts to crawl..everything works as trail and error.

everyone has got the time to fly. stop comparing yourself to others.

others dont define you and even if they did, your actions are separate from their opinions?!?

why not just to take an action!

start with less popular people like you..

or

people who are very accepting

see them and collect them like shiny perils on a coast.

They are there for you to collect..like a gift.

i mean if you see a friend as a gift..would you reject it? wouldnt you change the way you treat people//

social skills is 80% about listening and giving attention. encourage a person to speak (by nodding a lot , and mimicking his facial expression near the end of his speach- increases rapport).

ask yourself how you view people? are they a threat?

write down your values on a sheet of paper. where does a friend rank?

if they dont rank as your 4 top values. then , you can see where your problem lies.

friends worth a lot, cause they give us:

1) Self-esteem

2) Companionship

3) Compasion

4) Emotional and Physical/material support

5) Social Skills for future relationships

6) Give you advice and tell you about their life experience (like me)

Famous leaders and successful business man, did it mostly cause of friends

i hope some of the things i discussed, influenced your perception..even in its slightest,. i am 26, and i consider you as having a potential and the time to change your personality to your desire
Your problem is not your personality.... That is a mistake which is based in the premise that I am who I am and ';shy';, ';quiet'; and ';socially awkward'; is part of who I am.

Such an assumption becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

To make a change, all you have to do is:

1) Learn to present yourself a little better (just in how you smile or say hello can make a big difference in how ppl will respond),

2) Learn to read ppl (body language) a little better so you can see the feedback better, and

3) Don't take the opinions of others so personally. (Everyone is living their own lives. Trying to do the best they can. Afraid of stuff. They have their own prejudices that affect how they see others including you. And, don't assume that someone who seems so put together and confidence has Life figured out any better than you. Many of them just have a better ';poker face'; than you do.)

To start.... Try reading this book:

Good luck and be well.

P.S. - As you gain in social skills and having success, you will find your confidence will grow as well.

Any advice on how to change my personality?

Ive been told I can be a pretty big jerk...but i dont know how in the hell im supposed to just up and change the way I am...any advice.Any advice on how to change my personality?
Start off by doing small little random acts of kindness. When you can actually see the difference it makes in peoples lifes then you will start changing how you act towards people.Any advice on how to change my personality?
Watch a lot of Barney
All I can tell you is be more nice to people.

You can change your personality, but you won't comfortable with yourself and therefore you won't be happy.
Don't think it's so much about changing your personality...it's more about learning how your actions affect other people and changing the actions...
take a second or 2 to think your response out before you say it. think, is this person too sensitive, or will the understand my personality? all people are different.
If your old enough, massive amounts of alchohol. Have some old golf club around to bash some used tv's. It will change you for the better.
hmmmmm
I've been told the same thing .. I talk to much and when company is here I talk to them too much asking what they've been up to ... how the hell am i suppose to not talk to company!! i was recently told ';she has her head in the clouds all the time'; and well what the hell?????

so i know what you mean ! its so wierd to suddenly find out people don't like you !
go to your local public library and go to the SELF HELP section, they have tons of books on this subject, look through them and pick maybe only two, any more may give you to much conflicting information, read these books thoroughly, and practice what they tell you to do

Good Luck
You've got to know the personality of the person you are around. I know it sounds like I'm saying ';act different around each person,'; but I'm not. I'm just saying that if the person thinks you're a jerk, they probably just can't take the kind of joking or talking that you usually use. You've got to adjust to them if they are uber sensative.
You can't change your personality... No one can do that. You only can improve in your personality and become a better person. Don't think too much about those nonsense opinion from others. It only will put you under a stress condition. Think positive... See more people, make friends, take a walk or go a place where you can find serenity. So, good luck k.
Don't go as far aas to cange your personality, because some people may like you for the way you are. I suggest that you watch what you say and your actions, figure out the ones that other find offensive, and then gradually over time change the way you do those things. Don't go rushing into it because then you won't be happy with who you are, or anything for that matter.

  • Can your profession change your personality drastically?

especially while you are having tough time at work. How to overcome this? Can your profession change your personality drastically?
Yes your job can take a toll of how you view the world around you.It is often taken out on the family members you love. I know this from experience. So what we did was take time away from everyone, and enjoyed a very long vacation. That made all the difference for us.

How to change my personality? or am i to change my personality ?

I think I am usually controlled by emotion and sometimes i act before thinking much.I don't want to be like this,I want to be calm and maybe a little cold hearted ... i feel like i am always creating trouble for myself just to help people.. and in the end when i need help no one really wants to help me ... kind of feel like an idiot (sorry for my poor English )How to change my personality? or am i to change my personality ?
If you really want it you can change but it is not that easy.

It is all about you goal and you willpowerHow to change my personality? or am i to change my personality ?
I never truly understood how important it was to be selfish and put myself first. For the better part of my life I have taken care of everyone else around me. Giving them support, picking them up when they are down, being that shoulder to lean on or the ear that listens. But in the process I neglected me. I let other peoples problems become my own. I dealt with the issues of those around me but not the ones within myself. I was too afraid to confront my own personal demons because that would mean putting me first. For some reason that was s0mething that I used to find so hard to do.

These days I try to focus on the positive. Always keeping my eye on the prize, constantly making short term goals and being proud of myself when I achieve one of them. I am learning to love myself again. I don't ever want to go back to the way I was. I like the new me and I enjoying getting to know him.

How do I change my personality?

I see myself as open, friendly, caring, respectful of others, though I can be direct but not trying in any way to be mean. Yet I was told today on my new job that many have complained that I'm loud and abrasive and then they describe how I should be and that's how I saw myself being? What can I do? How can I truly know how others perceive me, when I'm obviously wrong. I've only got until Monday's work day to fix it or I'm out of there...please help? How do I change my personality?
Maybe it's like going to a new school... the kids don't know you yet, and they pick on you 'cause you're the ';new kid on the block';.

Don't know how to help you, dude... wish you the best of luck. Keep on being friendly, caring, etc.How do I change my personality?
Since you don't have much time, I would start by being very quiet. Don't talk at all unless someone asks you something directly or you need to say something due to your job needs. When you do talk, keep your voice soft and stick to the subject. Don't insist on anything or criticize anything. Take a second or two to think about what you are saying. If you are new at work, you may be getting too pushy too soon. People don't like others who try to take over their ';territory';. It puts them on the defensive. Just quietly and efficiently do your work. Your boss should have given you an example of what you said or did that upset people. That's the proper way to help someone identify and change unwanted behavior. Good luck.
As a heuristic, your personality is usually fixed. However, you can change your attitude.

With regards to your co-workers, try and be understanding to negative comments and do a little bit of introspection.

Don't think of yourself as wrong, but merely as being new to a new environment.

    Be optimistic.

    Yours truly,

    Makoto
True change takes more than a couple of days. Check out tips on how to be more assertive. It's okay to be direct, however tact when doing so is what makes it hearable or not. Maybe something that would give you more insight the way you view yourself vs the way others view you too, is checking out your Sun sign and your Rising sign. Your rising sign is how people observe you. Also ask your boss for tips on how you can improve yourself. It would show you are willing to change and he/she might need to see that. Best wishes.
I have the exact same problem...

I try to just keep myself to myself when at work, keep my head down, so that i dont come accross loud and overpowering.

You should never try and change your personality though, if people dont love you for who you are then thats their problem.. :)
That funny feeling you feel is life. Just ask the people criticizing you to explain just exactly how you are loud and abrasive. Then take it from there. It's just a big game, take it with comfort.
Still be who you are, but tone it down and try to project a positive attitude in a nice way.
I'm in the same pickle as you, and here's how I fixed my problem:

There's this guy in my class I'll call ';Jason';. He's a real cool guy, real good-looking and athletic and smart and all, and I'm not saying that in a gay way, just that he's someone I admire. Everyone likes him, but he's not really bubbly or obnoxious or anything, like I am. In fact, he's calm, collected, and just real nice, so that's why people like him. So what I did was channel him through me. I wanted ppl to like me in the way they liked him (ie: not as a silly kid, but as a good friend). I watched him in my Algebra class and mimicked his posture, his smile, his clothes, even they way he gripped his pencil. I laughed at what he laughed at, stayed wide-eyed and unaffected when he did. Later, I found myself becoming ';him'; even when I wasn't watching him, like at home, or in my other classes. Find someone you admire, someone you want to personalize with, and try to be like them. Don't make it obvious and go overboard with the clothes and the hair and stuff; it's the subtle things that count.
You just have to think before you speak. Whenever someone talks to you, consciously run your response through your head for five seconds to decide if anything could possibly offend or annoy. If you are at a new job, you are approaching a territory where friendships have already been established. You're the new kid, and you have to earn the openness and social intimacy, it does not come already. Even if you believe what you are saying is friendly or charming, it probably comes off as obnoxious. You do not really know these people yet and are interfering with their group psyche, the day to day behavior that they are all used to and is considered acceptable. Anything out of the norm is going to put them off and make them dislike the person who changed it - you. So keep your head low, focus on your job, and keep your mouth mostly shut. Don't talk about anything personal with other people, no friendly teasing, no innuendos or jokes, no loitering or openly doing anything besides working hard. When speaking to others, be sure to maintain a steady pitch that is not too high or excited, and refrain from smiling too much or staring at people longer than necessary. In time, you will grow accustomed to how they like other people to behave and learn to talk how it is acceptable. Maybe you will gradually be able to show a bit more of your more boisterous personality traits over time when everyone has gotten to know you, but for now, the workplace is not for social talk or making friends, it's for doing a good job on the task at hand. Prove you are a good worker, and then they will be able to take you seriously and see if they like you socially. If you take my advice you will not fail.

    Good luck.

How to get a girl to change their personality into a sexually person?

Either someone has it in them to be a really sexual person or they don't. I highly doubt that you can create one.
The only way you'll get her to give it up is if you slip her a roofie.
there are 2 ways....................give her space and time

What are you, some kind of freak!
umm talk about nasty or plain doing the nasty lol. but no i dont think so unless shes already a hoe
    you generally can't change people.

if someone has a low sex drive well thats how some people are made.

you can try making things more pleasurable for her and she might feel more sexual. also make her feel good about herself. flatter her and compliment her. show her how much you want her outside the bedroom as well as in.

    use your imagination
manipulation is mostly wrong. BUT! in this case...it's still wrong.
Tease her, romance her, send and say sweet messages
